The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with Senior Manager, Human Resources to support the corporate office. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy interpretation and implementation and employment law compliance.

Essential functions:

Administers various policies and procedures for San Diego employees; assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures; maintains employee handbook and policies. Provides guidance for compensation decisions; monitors the effectiveness of the programs to meet organizational objectives. Acts as site specific benefits administrator, including employee claims resolution assistance and communication of benefit information to employees. Conducts new-employee onboarding meetings and exit meetings. Handles employee relations counseling with minimal supervision. Acts as program manager for various HR initiatives, such as Wellness and employee engagement programs. Drives programs and decisions to HR Representatives across domestic locations. Provides day to day guidance and direction to HR Assistant, HR Coordinator and Receptionist to meet organizational and departmental goals. Maintains HRIS system employee records and compiles reports on an ad-hoc basis.

Requirements:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • Minimum of five (5) years progressively more responsible experience in Human Resources

Knowledge/Skills

  • Working knowledge of all aspects of a Human Resources department with a strong emphasis on employment law, benefits administration and employee relations.

  • Ability to coach employees and managers in a solution-oriented manner which encourages positive outcomes

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Keen attention to detail and high degree of accuracy

  • Experience with using everyday tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet)

  • Ability to promote the delivery of exceptional customer service to both internal (staff) and external customers (visitors and vendors)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and HRIS systems

  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs especially during times of high volume
